Help resettle Sri Lankan Tamils: Vaiko
to Centre

N Sathiya Moorthy in Chennai

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Vaiko, detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act for making pro-Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam speeches, on Tuesday called upon the Centre to help in the resettlement of Tamilians in the island nation.

In a statement released by his lawyer outside the Mayiladuthurai court, where he was present, Vaiko urged the government to lift the ban on the LTTE and assist the ongoing peace talks between the Sri Lankan government and the outfit.

He asked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the Cauvery water issue.

The MDMK leader was produced in court in connection with an attack on an All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam motorcade in 1984.

Vaiko was then in the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

The case was posted for further hearing on September 24.
