Gangsters kill TN Congress politician

N Sathiya Moorthy in Chennai

Gangsters killed Thalamuthu Natarajan, a businessman and president of the Salem Urban District Congress Committee, at his farmhouse on the Seelanaickenpatti bypass road on Thursday morning.

Natarajan was hit with a crowbar when he challenged the gangsters with his licensed pistol. He died on the way to the hospital. His watchman, who was also shot, died on the spot.

The gang managed to escape with jewellery worth lakhs of rupees.

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president E V K S Elangovan paid homage to Natarajan, whose body has been kept in the DCC office.

In a statement, Elangovan said the incident had occurred at a time when he was repeatedly pointing out how the safety of the individual was at peril in the state.

The Salem police are investigating the case.
