Vajpayee holds talks with Karzai,
Danish PM

Devidas Gupta in New York

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Wednesday held talks with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai and discussed rehabilitation and reconstruction of the war-ravaged country.

The issue of more Indian assistance to Afghanistan came up for discussion between the two leaders.

India has already made substantial contribution to the rebuilding of Afghanistan, whose economy has been shattered by decades of conflicts.

Earlier, Vajpayee met Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and they spoke of greater economic cooperation between India and Denmark.

During his stay, the prime minister, who arrived in New York on Tuesday on a week-long tour of the United States, is expected to have talks with a dozen world leaders on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Vajpayee addresses the world body on September 13.
