UP crisis: Amar Singh holds talks with Congress leaders

He also met Congress leaders Motilal Vora and Manmohan Singh in New Delhi and briefed them on the situation in the state.

"The ball is now in Congress' court," he later said.

Amar Singh said he would also meet Communist Party of India-Marxist veteran Harkishan Singh Surjeet.

He said, "The Mayawati government of opportunist BSP and communal BJP will fall because of its own failures and internal squabbles and it is the SP's duty to make efforts to give the people of the state a secular government."

According to Amar Singh, Manmohan Singh said the SP's views were indeed laudable and it should try to form an alternative government with the help of the Congress support.

Manmohan Singh assured him that he would convey to Gandhi the SP's feelings, he said.

The SP leader said Surjeet had spoken to Manmohan Singh and impressed upon him the need for cooperation from the Congress.
