Rajnath sent to mollycoddle dissidents
in UP

The central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday sent party general secretary Rajnath Singh to Lucknow to try and placate the dissident legislators in Uttar Pradesh.

The dissidents had demanded that the party pull out of the UP government and support it from outside, just like the Bahujan Samaj Party was doing at the Centre.

They were reportedly holding a meeting at an unknown place to chalk out their strategy.

"They did not want to disclose the place of their meeting, as [state unit chief Vinay] Katiyar had reached the place where they were yesterday," one of the legislators said on condition of anonymity.

Vinay Katiyar and two other senior leaders, Lalji Tandon and Kalraj Mishra, held parleys with the dissidents on Wednesday, but there was no breakthrough.

Mishra said the state leadership was in favour of giving one more chance to the dissidents before initiating disciplinary action against them.
