Ten charred to death in cracker unit blast in Tamil Nadu

Ten people were charred to death in an explosion in a cracker unit in Mandagapet village in Villupuram district in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, District Collector Mohamed Aslam said.

A number of women were among the deceased, he said. Eight people were injured in the incident, he added.

About 20 people were reportedly working in the unit at the time of the blast. The cracker unit was completely gutted in the incident, he said.

Hospital sources said four of the eight persons hospitalised, including a woman, have 100 per cent burn injuries. The collector said the District Revenue Officer at Villupuram would hold probe into the incident.
