Rocket attack on Radio Kashmir
station in Srinagar

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Militants late on Thursday evening launched a rocket attack on the heavily guarded station of Radio Kashmir in uptown Srinagar.

Police said the rocket was fired from a nearby locality and hit the front side of the building.

An official of the Radio Kashmir, reached by phone, said that no one was injured in the attack. The explosion smashed the window panes and damaged a portion of the building, he said.

"Majority of the staff had left when the rocket hit the building," the official said.

The Radio Kashmir station is located near the heavily-guarded Doordarshan station.

Senior police officers immediately rushed to the spot. No one has as yet admitted responsibility for the attack.
