Gas leak near Ahmedabad affects 800

More than 800 people were affected due to a gas leak from a factory in Kalamsar village in Gujarat's Anand district, about 125km from Ahmedabad on Monday, even as the authorities ordered the closure of the factory.

District Collector R B Dave told reporters that Oleum gas started leaking from a container parked outside a chemical factory on Monday evening. The gas started leaking when the tanker was being filled at a high pressure.

The leak was stopped and medical aid was provided to the affected people. Most of them were discharged from the hospital after being treated, Dave said.

Nearby areas of Bhajipura, Pandariapura, Kanakapura and Jhagangirpura were also affected due to the leakage, he said.
