Centre supporting communal forces: Sonia Gandhi

Congress president Sonia Gandhi charged the Centre with supporting some communal forces bent upon undermining the unity of the country and asked the people to foil their evil designs.

"There is a need to boldly face such forces and prevent them from succeeding in their conspiracy," the Congress chief said addressing an ex-servicemen rally in Chandigarh on Saturday.

"These forces wanted to create a Gujarat-like situation in the rest of the country, but failed to achieve success," she added. The Congress chief claimed that her party would give a strong reply to the BJP in the forthcoming assembly election in Gujarat and form the next government.

She called upon members to strengthen the party by working for the welfare of people.

Expressing her concern about the welfare of the poor, Gandhi said, "We are concerned about the poor, backward class and women... our efforts should be to work up to the expectations of the people."

She described the party as a 'family' and said, "We should all have faith in the party. Good faith - Sadbhavana - within the organisation can only take the 'family' ahead."

Referring to dissidence, if any, within the party, the Congress president said, members should not indulge in the game of one-upmanship. "The youth should learn from seniors and the latter should give them a chance to come forward," she added.
