Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Rural Development Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed escaped unhurt in a militant attack on Saturday evening while on his way to Srinagar after his first visit to the South Kashmir constituency after being sworn in as a minister.
The police said militants attacked the heavily escorted motorcade of Sayeed near Hiller Kokernag in Anantnag district.
Police sources said that three cops who were in the escort vehicle jumped out in panic and were seriously wounded. They were shifted to Soura Institute for treatment.
The Deputy Inspector General of police Amin Anjum talking to rediff.com said, "The militants fired towards the motorcade from a distance. No one was hurt."
Senior police officers of Anantnag rushed to the spot as the news about the attack reached the district headquarters.
No one has yet owned responsibility for the attack.
