'Hindu' does not refer to
any religion: Advani

Seeking to take the sting out of the attack from Sangh Parivar outfits and the Shiv Sena for his remark that India can never become a Hindu rashtra (nation), Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani has said the word 'Hindu' did not refer to any particular community or creed but to anyone living in India.

"India is a country where unity exists in diversity and the word 'Hindu' is not meant to designate any particular creed or race, but is an ideology which can be adopted by any person living in India," Advani told reporters in Ghaziabad late on Thursday night while commenting on Sena supremo Bal Thackeray's criticism of his statement made in Parliament.
