India capable of dealing with terrorism: Yashwant Sinha

Asserting India's determination to take all appropriate steps to combat Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism, the government on Thursday told the Rajya Sabha that this was a fight that the country must wage on its own.

"India can deal with terrorism on its own. We are not dependent on the international community for a solution," said External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha.

He said New Delhi had conveyed to the international community, including the US, that it must exert greater pressure on Islamabad and examine what additional steps it can take to ensure the fulfilment of the commitment that it received from Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on permanently ending cross-border terrorism against India.

Sinha said though infiltration had not 'gone down drastically', it would not be right to say that it has increased.

He said it would be a 'grievous error' to make any distinction between terrorists going to one part of the world and those going to another. "We will strive to ensure that this contradiction is eliminated," he said.
