Terrorists were planning strike on Pushkar, says police

The three suspected terrorists arrested during the annual Pushkar fair this year had come to do the groundwork for an attack at the fair, which attracts thousands of people, including foreigners, police said.

While the documents recovered from Mohammad Abdullah, Mohammad Islam, and Mohammad Aslam clearly established their 'terrorist links', interrogations indicated they were preparing for an attack, they claimed.

Following interrogations, four more persons, believed to be their accomplices, were detained.

Unprecedented security measures were taken for the fair in the wake of intelligence reports of possible terrorist strikes. The fair ended without incident on Tuesday.

The suspects arrived at Ajmer from Jammu & Kashmir and were proceeding to the fair when the police nabbed them. Abdullah is from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh while Islam comes from Poonch in J&K. Aslam was found to hail from Bangladesh.

Though documents proving links with terrorists were obtained from the trio, no arms were recovered from them. The investigating officers have got in touch with the Jammu & Kashmir police for more information on the detainees.
