NRI, sons booked for cheating

District police chief Varinder Kumar told reporters in Gurdaspur on Wednesday that Pritam Singh, a resident of Dina Nagar, and his sons Chatarbir Singh and Harcharan Singh had been booked in the case.

Chatarbir Singh was arrested and released while Harcharan Singh is absconding, Kumar said. Pritam Singh is reported to be in Canada.

Daler Singh, a resident of Alechack, complained to the police that in September this year the suspects promised to send him to Canada for a fee of Rs 4 lakh. After paying the amount, the complainant said he was handed a fake passport.

Following Daler Singh's complaint, the Delhi police arrested Chatarbir and later released him. Daler Singh then went to the suspects' house to ask for a refund, which was refused. A case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the three, Kumar said.
