Bus catches fire in MP; 30 feared killed

At least 30 people were feared killed and 27 injured when a private bus caught fire 40 km from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, on Wednesday evening.

The bus, which had a seating capacity of 80, turned turtle on Jabalpur-Dindori road at Paharkheda village in Mandla district, Additional Superintendent of Police B S Chauhan said, adding petrol in a can kept behind the driver's seat was the cause of the fire.

Fifteen injured were admitted to hospitals in Jabalpur and two were said to be in serious condition. Some were discharged after first aid, police sources said.

Top civil and police officials had rushed to site to supervise the rescue and relief operations, the sources added.
