Tamil Nadu legislator S Mani Nadar dies after prolonged illness

N Sathiya Moorthy in Chennai

S Mani Nadar, member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly representing Sathankulam constituency in southern Tuticorin district, died in a Chennai hospital following a kidney ailment, for which he was under treatment for some time now.

A two-time legislator, 67-year-old Mani Nadar was elected on the ticket of the Tamil Maanila Congress, and continued to be one of the five rebel MLAs after the party merged with the Congress parent in August this year.

With his death, the strength of the 'TMC group', as recognised by assembly Speaker K Kalimuthu, has gone down to four in the 234-member assembly.
