Delhi police issues notice to Ansal Plaza shootout witness

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

The Delhi police on Saturday evening served a notice to Dr Hari Krishna, a witness to the Ansal Plaza shootout in which two alleged terrorists were shot dead, under section 160 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The notice directs Krishna to appear before the officers of the special cell to give his statement on the shootout.

Krishna had alleged the Delhi police had shot dead the two alleged Laskhar-e-Tayiba terrorists in a fake encounter in the popular shopping mall in south Delhi.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (special cell) Ashok Chand said, "He was scheduled to appear before us but he did not turn up. That is when we decided to serve him a notice."

But Krishna told rediff.com that he would not appear before the police, as he was apprehensive about his safety.

"Why should I appear before the Delhi police. They would pick me up and kill me. I would appear before a court as and when one calls me," he said.

He refused to give his landline number and preferred to speak on his mobile phone instead.

He claimed that he had gone underground for four days at the instance of the Delhi police.

"They told me not to be seen around for four days as the matter would cool off and the media would stop chasing me. Instead they started alleging that I was a fake doctor and I had several cases against me. They dug up an old dowry case against me and my son filed by my estranged daughter-in-law Sujata. They are now colluding with a relative of mine with the sole intention of putting me behind the bars," he alleged.

Chand, however, rejected the allegations of the doctor. "We have established through the cell phone tower chart that he was nowhere near the scene of the encounter when the two terrorists were killed. In fact, he was in Soami Nagar at 2100 hours and reached the spot [Ansal Plaza] only after 2115 hours," he said.

Krishna claimed that if the Delhi police was so efficient then they should have been able to trace his movements in the last four days when he had gone underground. "They should tell the media where I was during these four days," he said.

He claimed that he had invented immunotherapy for cancer patients. "I have shown my certificates to the media at a press conference. You can go to my web site and find out about my credentials," he said.
