Amar Singh, Azmi among SP
candidates for RS polls

The Samajwadi Party on Wednesday announced the names of its general secretary Amar Singh, former minister of Parliament Uday Pratap Singh, Maharashtra unit chief Abu Asim Azmi and journalist Sahid Siddique as candidates for the November 18 Rajya Sabha election from Uttar Pradesh.

Azam Khan, Samajwadi Party legislature group leader, announced the names in a press conference in Lucknow.

The party, which has a strength of 142 in the 403-member house, can ensure a win for at least three of its candidates, each needing 37 votes.

The party would have to depend on its ally, Rashtriya Kranti Party, which has four members in the house, to secure the 148 votes for all the candidates.
