Musclemen to manage crowds at Laloo's daughter's wedding

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

Having learnt a lesson from his eldest daughter Misa Bharti's wedding, former Bihar chief minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Laloo Prasad Yadav will be employing the services of two known musclemen to manage the guests - invited and others - at the wedding of his second daughter Rohini Acharya.

The wedding will be held on the sprawling premises of 1, Anne Marg, the official residence of Chief Minister Rabri Devi (Yadav's wife) on May 24.

At Misa Bharti's wedding in 1999, the crowds became unmanageable following gate-crashing by party supporters and workers, well-wishers and curious onlookers.

At that time Abdul Bari Siddiqui, a sober and gentle minister in the state cabinet, had been stationed at the entrance. Siddiqui completely failed to prevent the entry of uninvited guests forcing Laloo Prasad Yadav to leave other work and manage the crowd.

Unlike that time, when 10,000 invitation cards were printed and distributed, only 5000 invitation cards have been distributed for Rohini Acharya's wedding.

This time, wrestler-turned-minister Dadan Yadav, popularly known as Dadan pahelwan, and Lalit Yadav, symbols of the RJD's muscle power, will manage the entrance and the crowds.

Dadan is known more for his body-building than his administrative and managerial skills while Lalit Yadav gained nationwide notoriety for allegedly torturing a truck driver at his official ministerial residence.

Sources in RJD circles said that the mere presence of both Dadan and Lalit would be enough to deter unwanted guests from harbouring any hope of sneaking in.
