Tight security for Laloo's daughter's marriage

Anand Mohan Sahay in Hichan Bigha

Tight security arrangements have been made for the marriage of Rohini Acharya, daughter of Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav and Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi.

The state administration has deployed the Bihar Military Police from Patna to Hichan Bigha, the groom's village in Aurangabad district, 90 km from the state capital.

Senior police and administrative officials are camping in the village for the mega event.

Rohini Acharya will tie the knot with US-based software professional Samresh Singh, who is the son of Laloo's college friend Rai Ranvijay Singh.

Rohini is a final year student of medicine in Jamshedpur in Jharkhand state.

"Foolproof security has been made to receive Laloo Prasad Yadav and his family members," District Superintendent of Police Sanjay Singh said.

He said extra care is being taken as the village falls under Naxalite-hit areas.

Police sources told rediff.com that nearly 1000 police personnel would be lined up from the official residence of Rabri Devi to Hichan Bigha to provide security cover to the 500-600 strong cavalcade to be led by Laloo.

Four platoons of the Central Reserve Police Force have also been deployed, the sources added.

A full-fledged team of doctors will accompany the cavalcade in view of the severe heat wave conditions prevailing in the state.

The cavalcade was scheduled to leave Patna around 10 in the morning but was delayed by an hour.

The tilak ceremony is scheduled at 1900 hrs in Hichan Bigha on Tuesday.

Sources said the barat would come to Patna after the tilak ceremony and would stay at 12, Circular Road, official residence of Public Relations Department Minister Sitaram Yadav.
