India has minimum nuclear deterrence: DAE

India has built a minimum credible nuclear deterrence and is fully prepared to face any threat, Dr Anil Kakodkar, secretary, Department of Atomic Energy, said on Monday.

When asked whether in the current scenario India was fully prepared, Kakodkar, also chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, said, "The country is ready to face any situation. Indian scientists had been able to work successfully on the entire range of nuclear devices, including the thermonuclear device."

India had also speeded up its nuclear energy programme during the past few years, he said.
