President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan made this statement at a meeting with Sikander Hayat Khan, prime minister of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in Islamabad where they reviewed security preparedness following reports of heavy exchange of fire along the Line of Control.
Meanwhile, the defence ministry briefed ambassadors and representatives of the 15-member European Union on Pakistan's regional security perspective with special reference to the massive Indian troop deployment along the border.
The defence secretary, Lieutenant General (retd) Hamid Nawaz Khan, appealed for a more active role by the international community to defuse tension between the South Asian neighbours, an official statement said.
"It is the responsibility of the international community to differentiate between right and wrong by extending help towards maintaining a balance in the conventional capabilities so that the nuclear threshold is kept high," he said.
The briefing was attended by the ambassadors of Spain, Greece, Sweden and Italy, the charge d'affaires of Germany, Belgium, Portugal and Finland, and senior diplomats from France, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
