Two killed in Pakistan shelling

Indian troops on Friday flattened a Pakistani post and inflicted casualties in retaliatory firing while two persons, including a boy, were killed as Pakistani troops targeted Indian positions with mortar bombs and resorted to heavy firing along the Line of Control and the international Border in the Jammu-Poonch sector.

They used heavy mortars and rockets to target Indian defence locations and civilian areas, defence sources said.

The exchange of fire was on when this report was filed.

A boy, Rinkoo Kumar, died in a forward village in Kanachek, while Rampal, who was injured on Thursday at Arnia, succumbed, the sources added.

The areas which came under attack from across the border included Jallas, Khari-Karmara, Salotri, Shahpur, Sawjiwan, Boriwali, Laam, Bhawani, Hoki Chora, Bhimber Gali, Krishna Gati, Balakote, Noushera, Kerni, Samba and Arnia, they said.

Two persons each were injured in R S Pura and Poonch districts.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani defence ministry issued a statement in Islamabad claiming that four villagers died on its side of the border in firing by Indian troops.

An army spokesman in New Delhi described the firing as "routine" and said Indian troops did not use artillery.
