Hizb 'operational commander' backs Abdul Majid Dar

The 'operational commander' of the Hizbul Mujahideen said on Monday that the Pakistan-based command council of the outfit should "reconsider" and "revoke" the expulsion of Abdul Majid Dar and other commanders.

"Hizbul Mujahideen is not a personal belonging of any one and one cannot ignore the contribution of Dar, Assad Yazdani and Zafar Fateh in bringing the Kashmir issue to limelight in the international fora," Bilal Shahid told Srinagar-based News and Feature Alliance at an undisclosed place.

Terming the stand taken by the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir-based command council, led by Syed Salahuddin, as a "dictatorial" one, he said the expulsion should be revoked immediately as "Kashmiris were watching the developments within the Hizb very closely".

He said the command council had taken the decision in haste and the charges levelled against Dar and other commanders were totally "baseless".

"The person [Dar] who led the outfit for two years with the best leadership quality cannot become unreliable overnight," Shahid said.

The operational commander said he and his group had full confidence in Dar's leadership and expressed hope that the "commanders across the border will act in a mature manner and revoke their expulsion".
