Of the 12,771 civilians killed in militancy-related incidents in the state between January 1990 and January 2002, 2,656 were killed in Srinagar, the sources told the Press Trust of India in Jammu.
They said 2,385 civilians were killed in Baramulla district, 1,983 in Anantnag, 1,715 in Kupwara, 1,094 in Doda and 1,043 in Pulwama. Leh and Kargil, with 10 and six deaths, respectively, recorded the lowest number of civilian killings.
Of the 14,356 militants killed in the state in the same period, 3,566 were killed in Kupwara followed by 3,129 in Baramulla, 1,427 in Srinagar, 1,205 in Anantnag and 1,155 in Poonch. Kathua (76) recorded the lowest number of militants killed.
Of the 3,327 security personnel killed, Srinagar topped the list again with 649 deaths, followed by Baramulla (553), Kupwara (489), Anantnag (360) and Doda (344). Kathua (19) and Kargil (five) recorded the lowest number of security personnel killed.
