Rajya Sabha polls: Three Congress MLAs suspended for supporting Dilip Ray

Three Congress legislators of Orissa, who had sponsored the candidature of rebel Biju Janata Dal leader Dilip Ray for the Rajya Sabha polls, were on Thursday suspended from the party, according to Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee president Sarat Patnaik.

The legislators are Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Mamata Madhi and Kartik Mohapatra.

Disciplinary action was taken against the three MLAs after obtaining the approval of AICC, Patnaik said.

The Congress nominee for the Rajya Sabha elections, Maurice Kujur, was defeated on Wednesday polling 23 votes. The party has 25 MLAs in the state assembly.
