Bhartiya Janata Party's Lok Sabha member Vinay Katiyar has expressed his willingness to explain his stand on the holy relic in the Hazratbal shrine, in a Srinagar court.
District Principal Judge (Special) B A Kirmani had last week directed Katiyar to appear before his court on April 29 regarding a case filed by Muzzaffar Hussain Baig and journalist Imdad Saqi.
The petitioners have alleged that the holy relic belonged to Prophet Mohammad and not to a Hindu seer as had been reported in some Srinagar newspapers, attributing the remarks to Katiyar.
Katiyar, however, denied making any such remark and even clarified his stand in the Lok Sabha.
"If I am summoned, I will certainly appear before the court," Katiyar told rediff.com on Tuesday.
"I cannot predict what stand I will take in the court. But I will say what I feel should be said," he added.
However, he said, he has not yet got any such summons.
Meanwhile, the BJP top brass is trying to forestall Katiyar's visit to the Kashmir valley as they fear a law and order problem.
