Nothing new in Musharraf's remarks: India

India on Saturday dismissed Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's remarks on Kashmir saying there was nothing new in what he said.

"There is really nothing new in what General Musharraf had to say today. He has basically reiterated Pakistan's well-worn position on these issues," an external affairs ministry spokesperson said.

In his nationwide address on Pakistan Day, Musharraf said: "All issues, including the Kashmir dispute, should be settled through negotiations, but if India wants to use the language of force, it should not harbour any doubts."

"Pakistan is capable of defending itself and can thwart any aggression with a powerful response, if anyone dared challenge the might, it would be taught an unforgettable lesson," he said.

The spokesperson said: "I think what is necessary to keep in correct perspective is that India has made very legitimate demands of Pakistan, which are also supported by the rest of the international community."

New Delhi had asked Islamabad to stop infiltration and cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir besides handing over 20 terrorists sought by it.
