The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-corruption of the Tamil Nadu police on Friday raided the premises of three ministers of the erstwhile Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham regime hours after Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa gave a hint of the impending action in the state assembly.
The raids were conducted in Chennai and the native places of former transport minister K Ponmudi, M R K Panneerselvam and Andhiyur Selvaraj. Former DMK MLA Periyaswamy's residence in his native Tuticorin district was also raided.
Earlier, speaking during the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor's address in the state assembly, Jayalalithaa said that Ponmudi had ruined the transport department when he was the minister, adding that he would have to answer for that in court.
Taking exception to the use of 'strong language' by the chief minister, the DMK members walked out.
Ponmudi later told mediapersons outside the assembly that he would quit the assembly if the charges were proved.
The raids began soon after and were on at the time this report was filed.
