Heavy rain stops outstation trains in Mumbai

Our Correspondent in Mumbai

Heavy rain since early Wednesday morning has brought long-distance rail traffic in Mumbai to a grinding halt.

A number of outstation trains are held up at Virar on the Western line and near Kalyan and Karjat on the Central line.

Rains have disrupted movement of local trains too on all three -- Western, Harbour and Central -- lines. All local trains are running 15 to 20 minutes late.

"We had to discontinue all outstation services because of water logging on tracks," a senior railway official said.

It has been raining non-stop in Mumbai now for over 24 hours.
