VHP's call for division of J&K condemnable: NC

The National Conference on Monday panned the Vishwa Hindu Parishad for calling for the division of Jammu and Kashmir.

"VHP, at the behest and backing of some powers, is demanding the division of Jammu and Kashmir into four parts. It is a futile suggestion which will only compromise the integrity, independence and communal harmony of the country," party general-secretary Sheikh Nazir Ahmad said in a statement in Srinagar.

Describing the VHP's demand as a "condemnable conspiracy", he said, "These people should remember the fate of the erstwhile USSR."

"India is host to different communities," Ahmad said urging people to unite to defeat the "nefarious designs of such communal outfits".

The VHP had on Sunday demanded a separate enclave with Union Territory status for migrant Kashmiri Pandits. It had also demanded statehood for Jammu and UT status for the Ladakh region.
