The Tamil Nadu government on Friday decided to file a fresh suit before the Supreme Court praying for a direction to the Centre to ensure that the present interim order and also the final order, to be passed by the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, are effectively implemented.
It also decided to frame a new scheme to be submitted to Centre as per the Inter-state Water Disputes Act.
The apex court would also be moved to pass appropriate orders directing Karnataka to honour and implement the present interim order, and also the Tribunal's final order.
The state Cabinet, which met under the leadership of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, also decided that the state would not participate in the meetings convened by the Cauvery River Authority in future, since the Authority in its present form did not possess any powers and was unable to effectively implement the orders of the tribunal.
The same would also apply with regard to meetings of the present monitoring committees, a resolution adopted at the Cabinet said.
