A 'district finance chief' of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen was arrested and nearly Rs 700,000, documents and diaries containing details about hawala money transactions were recovered from him, the police said on Thursday.
Acting on specific information, the police on Wednesday night raided the rented house of Mohammad Ramzan in Doda city, Senior Superintendent of Police Vijay Singh Samyal said.
The police arrested Ramzan, who was working as a teacher in a private school of former Jamiat-i-Islami leader and chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Movement, Saidullah Tantray, who is imprisoned under Public Safety Act in Kotbalwal jail.
Besides cash, the recoveries included documents and diaries concerning transactions of Rs 12 million of hawala money to Hizb cadres, he said.
Ramzan was also involved in sending youth for arms training across the border, payments to the families of slain militants and issuing of fake identity cards, the SSP said.
The police also recovered a number of fake stamps of different government authorities and certificates of different organisations, he added.
