Army captain, two soldiers killed by J&K militants

Three security personnel, including an army captain, were killed when militants ambushed a joint party of the army and the Jammu Kashmir police in Surankot area of Poonch district on Monday evening.

In the ensuing encounter an army captain, a Special Police Officer and a police constable were killed on the spot. The militants, however, managed to escape.

The area has been cordoned off and a search was on to track down the militants, an army spokesman said.

In another incident, a militant was shot dead by security forces in Gool area of Udhampur district on Monday evening. An AK-47 rifle with some ammunition was recovered from the slain militant.
