124 Rajasthan MLAs fail to file I-T returns

Majority of the MLAs in Rajasthan have not filed their Income Tax returns and do not possess a Permanent Account Number (PAN), a top IT official said on Thursday.

Of the total 200 MLAs in the state, 124 have been served notices asking them to seek PAN numbers at the earliest and start filing returns on a regular basis, Director General of I-T (Investigation) Suresh Kapoor told reporters in Jaipur.

So far, politicians, including ministers, MPs and MLAs, and bureaucrats were not being investigated for tax evasion owing to lack of proper information on their assets, Kapoor said.
