2 alleged conduits for terrorist funds arrested

Security forces on Wednesday claimed to have busted yet another havala channel funding terrorists in the Kashmir valley with the arrest of two 'nodal agents' disbursing money to the pro-Pakistan Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen.

Abdul Jabbar Bhat alias Moulvi, a resident of Zampakadal, and Shoukat Ahmed Shah of New Colony, Lal Bazaar, were arrested by a joint party of the Border Security Force and the state police on Tuesday night, a BSF spokesman said in Srinagar on Wednesday.

The spokesman said Moulvi was instrumental in receiving illegal funds from across the border and had had received Rs 20 lakh [approximately US $40,800] till date for distribution to TuM cadres.

Shah was also involved in havala transactions and had received Rs 10 lakh [US $20,400] through different channels in January this year for distribution, he added.

Both men were working under Moulvi's cover in the Jamiat-e-Ahl-e-Hadis office at Barbarshah in Srinagar, the spokesman said.

According to him, Shah, during the Hajj pilgrimage two years ago, had reportedly visited Pakistan from Saudia Arabia in a special aircraft arranged by the Inter-Services Intelligence.

He claimed that the two were working as nodal agents for distributing money to TuM cadres.

The Jamiat-e-Ahl-e-Hadis, in a press note to the local media a week back, had claimed that BSF personnel had arrested two of its activists (Shah and Moulvi), and condemned the arrest.

Wednesday's claim of busting a havala channel is the third such claim in two months.
