Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief M Karunanidhi on Sunday night termed "a blatant lie" Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's charge that he was among the leaders who had "direct or indirect" links with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
Taking exception to Jayalalithaa's remarks made in her reaction to Pattali Makkal Katchi chief S Ramdoss' demand for bifurcation of Tamil Nadu, Karunanidhi in a statement said the chief minister had unnecessarily dragged him into the controversy.
Stating that a majority of political parties in the state had supported Sri Lankan Tamil outfits, particularly the LTTE, in the initial years of the Eelam struggle, he said AIADMK leaders, including Jayalalithaa, had a prime place in the list of LTTE sympathisers.
Jayalalithaa knew well that late chief minister and AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran had provided arms and financial aid to the Tigers, he said.
Karunanidhi accused Jayalalithaa of using the LTTE issue to target her political opponents.
