The Madras high court on Monday issued a notice to the Government of India on a petition challenging some clauses in the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
The first bench of Madras HC, comprising Chief Justice B Subashan Reddy and Justice Murugesan, directed the Centre to file its reply in two weeks.
The petition, filed by a Chennai-based lawyer, argues that sections 18 to 22 of POTA are unconstitutional. In this context, the petition cites the recent arrest of MDMK chief Vaiko as an example.
Significantly, the petition does not list the state government among respondents.
