Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday criticised Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S Ramadoss for calling for the bifurcation of Tamil Nadu to create a separate Vanniar majority state.
"This is a dangerous proposal made by Ramadoss and all right-thinking people should condemn it," she said after a meeting of the state Cabinet.
She also promised to "react into it [the issue] in detail at another time".
Jayalalithaa denied that the arrest of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Vaiko under the Prevention of Terrorism Act was discussed during the meeting.
"It only discussed the situation created by the Supreme Court order banning public meetings on highways and arterial roads," she explained.
When asked why Defence Minister George Fernandes, who was supposed to meet her in the evening, did not keep the appointment after his talks with Vaiko at the Central Prison in Vellore, she pleaded ignorance.
"The Centre sought the appointment in the morning, and was granted. We were told he had to rush back to Delhi," she said.
On Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav's criticism of Vaiko's arrest, she said Yadav was unaware of the conditions in Tamil Nadu and how far the activities of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam had affected the state.
