A commanding officer of the elite Rashtriya Rifles was seriously injured in a gun battle with terrorists at Sopore in north Kashmir on Wednesday afternoon.
Three terrorists and a radio operator of the commanding officer were killed in the encounter, police said.
Following specific information, troops of the Rashtriya Rifles encircled Rakh Haigam village, where they came under fire from the terrorists. Colonel Atul Joshi and his radio operator Lance Naik Jatinder were injured in the skirmish.
They were shifted to the base hospital in Srinagar where Jatinder succumbed to his injuries.
The troops, meanwhile, engaged the terrorists and the encounter ended in the evening.
Bodies of three terrorists were found on the site. The cordon around the village was continuing when reports last came in.
