Blast kills three pro-govt
militants in Anantnag

Mukhtar Ahmed in Srinagar

Three pro-government militants were killed and nine others critically injured on Wednesday morning in an explosion inside a building being used as a camp by counter-insurgents at Ashmuqam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district.

In a separate incident, militants attacked the Tral residence of National Conference MP Ali Mohammad Naik in Pulwama district early in the morning.

Police have identified those killed in the explosion as Ayub Khan, Gaffur Khan and Bilal Khan. A counter-insurgent's wife, two daughters and a son are among the critically injured.

An Indian Army chopper airlifted the injured to the army's base hospital in capital Srinagar.

Ashmuqam is located on the route of the holy Amarnath pilgrimage, which begins on July 22.

The building where the explosion occurred suffered extensive damage.

The residence of National Conference Member of Parliament Ali Muhammad Naik was attacked with grenades in the wee hours of Wednesday. Though Naik is attending the monsoon session of Parliament in New Delhi, his family was present at their Tral residence when the attack took place.
