Transporters on indefinite strike in Kashmir valley

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Transporters in the Kashmir valley on Tuesday went on an indefinite strike to press their demand for a hike in passenger fares.

Roads in the valley wore a deserted look in the morning as the strike evoked a complete response.

Passengers buses, trucks, autorickshaws, mini-buses are off the roads in capital Srinagar and other towns and villages.

The transporters have threatened to intensify the agitation if their demands are not met.

The strike, called a few days back, has affected attendance in government offices, banks and educational institutions.
