At least seven labourers were buried alive when a boulder caved in at a stone quarry at Panthachowk on the outskirts of Srinagar on Saturday afternoon.
Deputy Inspector General Of Police Farooq Ahmad, who visited the spot, said six others who were trapped and rescued by the police and locals were rushed to hospital with multiple injuries.
The police said three trucks were also buried crushed the boulder.
Panic gripped the area as news of the tragedy spread.
Sources said the rescue efforts would resume on Sunday morning as one more labourer was trapped inside.
