A Delhi court on Tuesday extended the judicial remand of Iftikhar Geelani, son-in-law of the firebrand Jamaat-e-Islami leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, till July eight for alleged violation of Official Secrets Act.
Remanding Geelani to six more days of judicial custody, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sangeeta Dhingra Sehgal also allowed the application moved by the investigating officer for his further interrogation.
The defence counsel V K Ohri raised no objection to the move of the police official.
The investigating officer also moved an application seeking directions to the Income Tax authorities to hand over the Video Compact Disc and floppies seized during the raids at Geelani's premises on June nine.
The application said these things were of 'no importance' to the tax authorities, but could help the police in its investigation.
The CMM issued a notice to joint director of income tax (investigations) to submit its reply by July eight.
Continuing its arguments on bail application, the defence counsel sought fresh evaluation of the documents seized from Geelani's residence, as the opinion expressed by Military Intelligence about them being 'classified' was 'totally baseless'.
The court directed the prosecution to submit its reply by July eight. The proceedings were held in-camera.
Geelani was arrested on June nine under Official Secrets Act as the police alleged that certain classified documents were recovered from his possession.
