11 get life imprisonment for Rajasthan Shiv Sena leader's murder

Eleven persons were sentenced to life imprisonment by a fast track court in Jodhpur after they were held guilty of killing the Shiv Sena's then Rajasthan unit chief Murlidhar Bohra with sharp edged weapons during communal riots in Phalodi town.

Holding the accused guilty, Additional District and Sessions judge Mohammad Arif sentenced Sharif and Saddiq, residents of Baap village, Mohammad Musa, Misra Khan, Mohammad Hanif, Jamaal, Fateh Mohammad, Shafi Mohammad, Aamdeen, Mohammad Sharif and Saddiq of Phalodi village to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 each under two sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The court also sentenced them to three years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1000 each under another section of the IPC. Both the sentences would run concurrently.

One of the accused, Hasam Khan, is still at large, the prosecution said.

Bohra's body was found lying on the railway tracks at Phalodi railway station on December 20, 1999, after communal violence erupted over efforts by some agitators to free calves from rail wagons bound for Bihar.

Bohra was leading the agitators when they were attacked by people from another community.
