Akbar Ahmed 'Dumpy' dumps BSP, joins Congress

Former Bahujan Samaj Party Member of Parliament Akbar Ahmed 'Dumpy' on Thursday joined the Congress party, making a scathing attack on the Mayawati-led party accusing it of entering into a secret understanding with the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Uttar Pradesh assembly election in order to gain power.

"I have high regard for Kanshi Ramji, but now the BSP has become Behanji Subkutch Party and Behanji Subkutch Paisa," Dumpy said, assailing Mayawati of taking control of the whole organisation and favouring those having money.

Mayawati is called Behanji (sister) by partymen.

Talking to reporters after he was formally welcomed to the Congress by All India Congress Committee general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad and party spokesman S Jaipal Reddy, he alleged that the BSP has fielded more than 80 Muslim candidates to divide the minority votes to help the BJP.

Dumpy's wife, Naina Balsaver, who had contested the last Lok Sabha polls from Nainital in Uttaranchal on BSP ticket, also joined the Congress.

A former Congressman who was a known Sanjay Gandhi loyalist, Dumpy described his joining the party as 'home coming'.
