Hizb commander killed, 20 kg
RDX seized in Kashmir

Five militants, including a self-styled commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen, were killed and 20 kg of RDX were seized in Kashmir since Tuesday night, officials said.

Hizbul commander Shamasuddin Ahmad, alias Muzamil, was killed along with his bodyguard near Haran in Handwara area of Kupwara, an official spokesman said. Shamasuddin was wanted in connection with a large number of militancy-related incidents, he said.

A huge cache of arms and ammunition, including five AK assault rifles, two pistols and an under-barrel grenade launcher were recovered from the slain militants, he said.

The spokesman said two militants of the Lashker-e-Tayiba, Syed Ali Abu Sakliya and Abu Haroom, were killed in an encounter at Sehpora in Kupwara on Tuesday.

Security forces also gunned down an LeT militant in an encounter at Bagh-e-Islam in Baramulla district.

Meanwhile, the army on Wednesday seized 20 kg of RDX and a huge cache of arms after smashing a militant hideout near the Line of Control in Uri sector, a defence spokesman said.

Twenty hand grenades, 30 rifle grenades, five remote-controlled improvised devices and a pistol were also recovered from the hideout at village Jambhar-Pattan, he said.
