Five intruders shot dead in J&K

The army on Wednesday shot dead five foreign mercenaries who infiltrated across the Line of Control in Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir, a defence spokesman said in Jammu.

He said the group of mercenaries equipped with arms and ammunition was spotted by troops early on Wednesday in the Peer Badesar area of Rajouri district.

On being challenged, the militants opened fire and in the ensuing encounter all the five terrorists were killed, he said.

Their identity could not be immediately ascertained as search operation in the area was continuing, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, militants abducted a youth and chopped off his right ear at Tuli village in Mahore Tehsil in Udhampur district on Tuesday, official sources said adding he was rushed to hospital where his condition is stated to be critical.
