BJP expels 16 more rebels in UP

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday expelled 16 party leaders, including five MLAs, for filing nominations against official party nominees for the next month's state assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

These leaders were earlier asked to withdraw their candidature, but when they chose to remain in the fray they were expelled, party general secretary Ramapati Ram Tripathi told reporters.

Those expelled included some former MLAs, Tripathi said adding that MLA Ram Sewak has been served notice for fielding his wife from Binawar constituency against the official party nominee.

He claimed that with Tuesday's expulsions, the party has expelled all those who had filed nominations against the party's official candidates or that of its allies.
