Dalai Lama ill, Kalchakra festival postponed

The ten-day Kalchakra festival, which began in Bodh Gaya on January 21, was on Thursday postponed midway with the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, announcing that he would be unable to deliver a spiritual speech on account of illness.

The Tibetan leader, who was to deliver his speech on Thursday, left the venue after 15 minutes with the announcement that he won't be able to do so as his health did not permit for a long oration.

The Dalai Lama's statement disappointed thousands of Buddhists who had arrived in Bodh Gaya from all over the world to hear their spiritual leader.

The Dalai Lama had suffered gastroenteritis 10 days ago and thereafter, he was advised rest. He could not attend the inaugural function of Kalchakra on January 21 and Gaden Tri Rimpoche, one of the members of a three-member priest panel formed to substitute him for the first three days, opened the festival.
